In Arizona, the instructors course is 650 hours in length which takes about 4 1/2 months to complete on a full-time schedule. After graduating from beauty school you must pass the Arizona State Board esthetics exam to become licensed. To enroll in the instructors course, you will need a high school diploma or GED and have at least one year of certified licensed work experience in your instructional field.

Not all instructors courses are created equally. When you choose a instructors course, make sure it has been accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences. That way you can feel confident that the curriculum has undergone extensive review and is audited each year to make sure they meet the more stringent U.S. Department of Education standards for graduation rates, placement rates, teaching standards, and curriculum requirements. Beware of nonaccredited schools because there typically is a reason why they cannot or will not meet the tougher accreditation body standards.

Also, accredited school's students may be eligible for U.S. Department of Education grants or loans, if they qualify. This could save you a considerable amount of money. Be a good consumer and check out all the schools and what they have to offer. By attending an accredited school, you also may be eligible for certain educational tax credits that you may use on your federal tax returns. Check with your tax advisor to determine your eligibility. At nonaccredited schools, you will not be eligible for the tax deduction.
